Netflix has begun eliminating the cheapest ad-free Basic subscription plan in the U.K. and Canada, and users will either have to go down to a subscription plan with ads or up to buy a different ad-free subscription plan with a more expensive monthly fee.
In the case of UK subscribers, for example, Netflix subscribers are being told that the Basic plan (no ads, £7.99 per month) has been discontinued, and that subscribers will either have to opt for the Standard with ads plan (with ads, £4.99 per month) or the Standard (no ads, £10.99 per month).
Canadian subscribers were also notified of the last viewing day for the basic plan. The Canadian price increase is even greater, from C$9.99 for the Basic plan to C$16.49 for the Standard plan; alternatively subscribers can choose the Standard plan with ads (C$5.99).
