Sega will acquire Finland-based game developer Rovio Entertainment next week for about $1 billion.
Rovio Entertainment has a number of self-developed games, including “Angry Birds” and “Little Thief”, among which “Angry Birds” is the company’s most successful game work. “Angry Birds” is also the first mobile game certified by the Guinness Book of Records to reach 1 billion downloads. As of last year, the total downloads of Rovio’s games exceeded 5 billion.
However, the original “Angry Birds” was removed from the app store as early as 2019, citing device compatibility issues at the time. However, in 2022, Rovio launched the remake of “Angry Birds”, which is the version that can now be downloaded from the store. It has been remade using the Unity engine, and there are still no in-app purchases and ads.
